The Belmar Arts Council is launching a summer classic film series this week, hosted at the Boatworks by BAC member Luke Suppa. The movies will run on alternate Wednesdays in June, July, and August. It opens on Wednesday, June 11 with the comedy/horror classic Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. The black and white 1948 film unites the NJ born comedy duo with some of Universal's greatest movie monsters- Frankenstein's Monster (Glen Strange), Dracula (Bela Lugosi), and the Wolfman (Lon Chaney Jr).
The movie begins at 7 pm. Admission is free.

July 9- Tarzan and His Mate, starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan (1934)
July 23- On the Town, starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra (1949)
August 6- Animal Crackers, starring the Marx Brothers (1930)
August 20- Angels with Dirty Faces, starring James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and Pat O'Brien (1938)

The first night of movies was a big success. We had a nice crowd, and everyone enjoyed the film. I've seen this one at least a dozen times on tv, going back to my youth, but it was nice to see it projected large on the screen. I'm looking forward to the next one in 2 weeks.
